Engine

An engine is the core of any vehicle, it is where the process of combustion occurs which creates the energy to move the car. Combustion is the reaction of a fuel, typically with oxygen from the air. The combustion process typically creates a large amount of heat, and produces steam, carbon dioxide and other chemicals at very high temperature.

Most engines tend to run on Petrol ( Gasoline in the USA ) or Diesel fuel. Except for the fuel delivery components, most internal combustion engines that are designed for gasoline use can run on natural gas or liquefied petroleum gases without major modifications. Large diesels can run with air mixed with gases and a pilot diesel fuel ignition injection. Liquid and gaseous biofuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel ( derived from crops ), can also be used. Some engines with appropriate modifications can also run on hydrogen gas. Ethanol and Liquified Petroleum gas are now available in the UK, although not in as many places as Petrol or Diesel.
