- Renault was founded in 1899, and the company quickly made a name for itself in Swiss city-to-city races at the turn of the 20th century. A renault car won the first ever grand prix racing event in 1905.
- The Renault - Nissan alliance is the 4th largest auto-maker in the world today, with over 6 million unit sales in the calendar year of 2008.
- At the 2008 Fleet World Honours, Renault was rewarded with the prestigious Environment Award. This followed Renaults introduction of a new line of eco-friendly vehicles in 2007 marked ecoČ.
- The Renault Clio III was voted European Car of the Year 2006.
- Renault is pushing ahead with its electric vehicle project and aims to sell between 20,000 and 40,000 electric cars in 2011.
- Israeli and Jordanian officials and executives are reported to be in discussions with executives from Renault-Nissan about setting up Israeli-Jordanian factory to make electric cars. A prototype is already on the road in Israel and various models will be sold by Renault and Nissan.
